Edmund Fitzgerald Beacon Lighting
Split Rock • Nov 10-11
On the weekend of November 10, the annual commemoration of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald will take place. The annual event starts at noon with a film about the Fitzgerald being shown in the theater. It’ll play throughout the afternoon. Also, the lighthouse and fog signal building will be open and staffed from noon to 6 pm.
At 4:30, the lighthouse will close while the names of the 29 crew members who died are read to the tolling of a ship’s bell. At this time, the lighthouse beacon will be lit. This marks the only time during the year to see the lighted beacon from inside the lighthouse. The event repeats again on November 11. For more information visit: mnhs.org/splitrock
