With seven gold & platinum recordings, the Nylons are a four-member vocal group from Toronto who have performed all over the world. Then on Monday, Dec. 21, the Good Harbor Hill Players will present the Winter Solstice Pageant at North House Folk School at 6 p.m. followed by a community potluck. The pageant is a shadow puppet show with nefarious gloomy characters and a funny plot, and all is resolved when the Sun Princess arrives.
This is always a fun event, regardless of the temps, so plan on coming down to North House for this one. And don’t forget to bring your gloomies to toss into the fire.

Other fun things to do this weekend include The Quilt Show at the Johnson Heritage Post. Most of the items are for sale, so it’s a great shopping opportunity as well as an “Oh-that’s-beautiful” time. The Heritage Post is open from 1-4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Chez Jude is re-opening for the winter season with a North Shore Holiday High Tea on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Mary Schliep will demonstrate rosemaling and Peter Barsness, Chef Judi Barsness’ husband, will demonstrate how to bake lefse. For music, check out Bluesman Paul Mayasich at the GunFlint Tavern at 8:30 p.m., the Sivertones on Saturday night and Bump Blomberg at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
At Papa Charlie’s in Lusten, Toby Lee & the HD’s (the rhythm section for Mick Sterling and the Irresistibles) play in the Apres Ski slot from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday. The entire band plays at 9:30 p.m.
The Holiday Art Underground show also features lots of Betsy Bowen woodcuts.
Also not to be missed is the Holiday Art Underground show at Betsy Bowen’s Studio, 301 1st Ave. W. The gallery is open through Christmas from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
And there’s a jewelry trunk show at Sivertson Gallery Saturday. Called “Rocks and Chains,” it features the work of Dobbs Boston and Flying Anvil.

For the chocolate lover, Gunflint Mercantile has lots of handcrafted chocolate-covered cherries for the season, as well as peanut brittle and homemade toffee.
Kah Nee Tah Gallery in Lutsen is featuring Swarovski crystal sun-catchers and mobiles by LaRae Fjellman of Lindstrom.
The Grand Marais Library and the Grand Marais Art Colony are collaborating on a family event, Welcome Winter!, at the Art Colony from 1-3 p.m. Saturday. There will be folk dancing with Terrance Smith, winter tales and a chance to create your own wrapping paper. Everyone is invited.
